If you applied for admission into the University of Calabar (UNICAL) for the 2026/2027 academic session, one of the biggest questions on your mind is likely: When will UNICAL start giving admission for 2026?
Many candidates are already checking their JAMB CAPS and UNICAL admission portal regularly, hoping to see an admission offer.
In this article, we explain the reported date for the commencement of the UNICAL 2026/2027 admission exercise, the latest information from the university, and what candidates should do while waiting for admission.
When Will UNICAL Start Giving Admission For 2026/2027?
The reported commencement date for the UNICAL 2026/2027 admission exercise is 20 August 2026.
This means candidates who applied for admission into UNICAL should begin monitoring their admission status on both JAMB CAPS and the UNICAL portal.
However, candidates should understand that the commencement of an admission exercise does not necessarily mean that every candidate will receive an admission offer on that exact date.
UNICAL admission is normally processed in stages, and different candidates may receive admission offers at different times.
Is UNICAL Admission Already Giving For 2026?
Yes, the 2026/2027 admission process is already underway.
The University of Calabar officially opened its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening registration on 1 June 2026, with the initial application deadline set for 31 July 2026. Candidates who met the requirements were allowed to apply through the university’s screening portal.
This means candidates should not wait for one particular day before checking their admission status.
If your admission has been processed and offered, it may appear on JAMB CAPS or through the appropriate UNICAL admission channel.
Important Update About the UNICAL 2026 Admission Date
There is an important point candidates should take note of.
Some education websites are reporting 20 August 2026 as the date UNICAL commenced its 2026/2027 admission exercise.
However, the official UNICAL website currently lists 28 October 2026 as an upcoming date for the 2026/2027 Post-UTME & Direct Entry Screening Exercise.
Therefore, candidates should not interpret 20 August as meaning that all UNICAL admission lists must be released on that day.
Admission processing can continue after screening and candidates may receive offers at different times.
When Will UNICAL Admission List 2026/2027 Be Released?
UNICAL does not necessarily release admission to all candidates at once.
Admission offers can be processed and uploaded in stages as the university completes its admission procedures.
Candidates should therefore avoid relying on social media posts claiming that a particular day is guaranteed for everyone.
The safest way to know whether you have been admitted is to check your JAMB CAPS admission status and the official UNICAL admission portal.
How to Check UNICAL Admission Status on JAMB CAPS
Candidates who applied for UNICAL should regularly check their JAMB CAPS account.
Follow these steps:
- Visit the JAMB e-Facility portal.
- Log in with your JAMB email address and password.
- Select Check Admission Status.
- Click on Access my CAPS.
- Select Admission Status.
- Check whether UNICAL has offered you admission.
- If you receive an admission offer, follow the instructions to accept or reject the admission.
If your status shows Admission in Progress, it means your admission is still being processed.
If it shows Not Admitted, you should continue checking because admission processing may still be ongoing.
How to Check UNICAL Admission Status
Candidates should also monitor the official UNICAL admission channels for updates.
The university’s Post-UTME portal confirms that candidates can use the platform for the 2026/2027 screening process and provides instructions for candidates who applied for the undergraduate admission exercise.
Candidates should make sure that the details submitted during their application are correct and that their O’Level results have been properly uploaded to JAMB CAPS.
UNICAL specifically advises candidates to upload their O’Level results on CAPS immediately.
What Does “Admission in Progress” Mean on JAMB CAPS?
If you check JAMB CAPS and see Admission in Progress, don’t panic.
This generally means that your admission is being processed and has not yet reached the final stage.
You should continue checking your CAPS regularly.
Do not reject an admission offer simply because you expected another course or institution without first understanding the consequences of the decision.
What If My UNICAL Admission Is Not Showing?
If your UNICAL admission is not showing yet, there are several things you should check.
1. Confirm Your JAMB CAPS Status
Log in to JAMB CAPS and check your admission status.
2. Confirm Your O’Level Result
Make sure your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result has been uploaded correctly to JAMB CAPS.
UNICAL’s official screening portal specifically advises candidates to upload their O’Level results on CAPS.
3. Keep Checking
Admission is not necessarily released to everyone at the same time.
Continue checking both JAMB CAPS and the UNICAL admission portal for updates.
4. Check Your Course and Admission Requirements
Make sure you meet the requirements for the course you applied for, including the relevant UTME subjects and O’Level requirements.
What UTME Score Is Required For UNICAL Admission?
For the 2026/2027 Post-UTME exercise, UNICAL stated that candidates who selected the university as their first choice and scored 150 or above in the 2026 UTME were eligible to apply.
Candidates who did not originally choose UNICAL but wanted to study there could also apply if they met the required UTME score and completed the necessary change-of-institution process.
However, meeting the minimum UTME score does not guarantee admission.
Admission also depends on factors such as the course applied for, available spaces, screening results and other admission requirements.
Will UNICAL Give Admission Through JAMB CAPS?
Yes. Candidates should pay close attention to their JAMB CAPS admission status.
JAMB CAPS is an important part of the admission process, and candidates should not rely solely on unofficial admission lists circulating on social media.
Once an admission offer appears, candidates should carefully follow the instructions provided and accept the admission where appropriate.
When Will UNICAL Stop Giving Admission For 2026/2027?
Some education websites are reporting 5 February 2027 as the end date for the 2026/2027 admission process.
However, candidates should treat this as the broader admission deadline being reported and continue to follow official JAMB and UNICAL announcements for any changes.
The fact that admission has started does not mean that every candidate who has not yet been admitted has lost their opportunity.
What Should UNICAL Candidates Do Now?
If you are still waiting for admission, the most important thing is to remain active throughout the admission period.
You should:
- Check JAMB CAPS regularly.
- Check your UNICAL admission status.
- Confirm that your O’Level result is uploaded to JAMB CAPS.
- Keep your JAMB registration details safe.
- Check your email and phone messages for important updates.
- Avoid paying anyone who claims they can “guarantee” UNICAL admission.
- Follow official UNICAL announcements rather than relying only on WhatsApp or Facebook rumours.
